The history of the Israeli Flag

The Israeli flag consists of two horizontal blue stripes on a white background with a blue hexagram in the middle. The six-pointed star, known as the Star of David, is a symbol of Judaism and represents the Jewish people, while the stripes represent their ancestors – Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It was adopted as the national flag on October 28, 1948, during Israel’s war of independence.

The flag of the State of Israel is so much more than just a flag – it's an identity!

The star represents the covenant between God and Israel – a sacred covenant made with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, and Solomon. The flag is a symbol that is often associated with Jews, both in the United States and around the world.

The blue and white colors of the Israeli Flag have been adopted by the Zionist movement since its inception. Journalist, political activist, and writer Theodor Herzl designed the flag or at least suggested the original design. The modern Zionist Flag design was first used on the flag of the Zionist Organization (ZO) in 1897, and it became the official emblem of the ZO in 1929. Today it is used as a symbol of Israel and Jewish identity.
