POW/MIA flag to fly at all prominent federal properties year-round
By Luke Porco
With Veterans Day approaching, we at Flagstore.com are holding a sale on all military and veterans flags at 25% off in the month of November. One of those flags that is available for purchase is the POW/MIA flag (Prisoners of War/Missing In Action).
The POW/MIA flag represents the National League of Families in the wake of the Vietnam War. The National League of Families were looking to bring POWs home and resolve the crisis. Their flag was designed in 1972 by artist Newt Heisley. The flag has a black background with white letters POW/MIA over a silhouette of a POW, with the words “You Are Not Forgotten” underneath. The flag became the only flag, other than the American flag, to fly over the White House.
The flag is currently the subject of a bill that was passed into law on Nov. 7. Sen. Elizabeth Warren introduced a bill called the National POW/MIA Act, requiring the POW/MIA flag to be flown with the American flag at the White House and U.S. Capitol, among other federal buildings and memorials. The bill has passed both chambers of Congress, and is awaiting President Donald Trump to sign it into law.
The POW/MIA flag is currently available at Flagstore.com, in polyester, and can be purchased to display your support for Prisoners of War and all the servicemen and servicewomen who were unaccounted for during previous wars.
