Amid pandemic, American Flag season has a new look this year
"These are the times that try men's souls."
-- Thomas Paine, Common Sense, 1776
Interesting how words published 244 years ago can ring so true today. WIth the effects of COVID-19 still pulling at our hearts and lives, the struggle can feel real. Much of the foundation, ideals and soul of the country was born out of trying times and when fellow Americans are suffering and dying, we all feel the impact.
Every year at this time we turn into American Flag season -- from Memorial Day to Fourth of July. We at FlagStore.com encourage all who can to buy American Flags from our collection. Beginning today, Apri 30, we will be offering 22% off all American flags and U.S. military banners.
There are remembrances and parades honoring those who sacrificed to build our country and even more who did so to maintain it. We wave our USA flags as veterans pass by, we stick or lay flags near graves of those who have fallen wearing our nation's colors.
Sadly, in many parts of the country, large gatherings and parades will not happen due to the risk of spreading of infection. But it doesn't mean we should honor any less our Founding Fathers and those who fought and died for our country.
This year, as we struggle with our health and our economy, there can be a sense of togetherness. This year is a time to remember and honor not only those who fought in armed service to this country and to help battle this outbreak, but those who fought on the frontlines against COVID-19.
The health care workers, the paramedics, police, firefighters all have played and still play immense roles in this fight. We also are grateful for the essential workers who are risking themselves to keep our food supply chain and other needed industries working at risk to their health. In many places across the country, we honor these folks on a daily basis with salutes such as the 7 p.m. Salute in New York City or whatever your neighborhood or community is doing in kind.
With our celebration of all Americans, here is a look back at some of the stories we have shared with our FlagStore.com customers and readers in the past:
- Did Betsy Ross design the original American Flag?
- Francis Scott Key and the moment that transformed the Star-Spangled Banner into an icon
- Nine amazing venues to watch Fourth of July fireworks (Be mindful and safe of course)
- Take care of your flag
- Celebrate members of the U.S. Navy
- Fly into the wild blue yonder with the U.S. Air Force
So please remember all those who have sacrificed and put their lives on the line for Americans this American Flag season, whether they be members of the military or the frontline and essential workers in our current struggle. Buy a U.S. flag at 22% off or even gift one to someone in need.
